Thane civic body earns Rs 500 crore in property tax, Majiwada tops with Rs 174 crore

As per data accessed till November 23, the developing areas of Ghodbunder Road generated Rs 173.9 crore of the total Rs 502 crore collected since the start of the fiscal.

THANE: The Majiwada-Manpada ward, which includes plush residential enclaves located in and around Ghodbunder Road, has contributed the most in property tax to the Thane civic corporation kitty.

As per data accessed till November 23, the developing areas of Ghodbunder Road generated Rs 173.9 crore of the total Rs 502 crore collected since the start of the fiscal.

It is followed by the Vartak Nagar (Rs 77 crore) and Naupada (Rs 63 crore). Nearly Rs 62.4 crore was generated from the counter operated at the Thane Municipal HQ. At Rs 16.5 crore, Wagle Estate contributed the least.

Overall, the Thane corporation has reported a rise in tax collection and recovery this fiscal as compared to last, TMC chief Abhijit Bangar said.

“We have crossed the recovery milestone of Rs 500 crore for FY 2022-23, which is nearly Rs 150 crore more than what was collected for the period last year. We are thankful to citizens for their cooperation in timely payment of the tax. Those who have not yet paid their tax should cooperate by paying it without delay,” Bangar said.

Meanwhile, residents complained that despite the high taxes, civic services, including water supply, were poor. “We are paying taxes on time, but still get inadequate water. We have to deploy 5-6 tankers daily and cough up additional money for it. Internal roads in and around Waghbil are not good,” complained a resident.
