Maharashtra: Revenue officials hopeful of land titling bill nod in Budget 2020

The bill proposes to make all land records available in one office to give people easier access to information. At present, records pertaining to immovable properties are available with different agencies.

Pune: The land titling bill is likely to be cleared in the upcoming budget session, senior revenue officials in the state government stated.

The bill proposes to make all land records available in one office to give people easier access to information. At present, records pertaining to immovable properties are available with different agencies.

The previous state government had released a draft land titling act in June last year. But the erstwhile cabinet could not clear it because of the elections and change in government.

State settlement commissioner S Chockolingam, who has been working on the land titling bill at the state and the centre, said that that the bill will soon be circulated to all states for approval while the state government is expected to take up its clearance in the upcoming budget session at the end of next month.

“The passage of the bill will help bring transparency, objectivity and easy accessibility of information on land and land transactions,’’ he said.

“Once the bill is passed, benami owners of immovable properties will be under radar,’’ said officials. A single act of transfer of property involves a minimum of four legislations and two authorities.

The bill aims to improve land administration system and ensure security of title over properties with focus on those whose titles are being created and properties allotted by government and semi-government authorities.
