In a significant development, the Maharashtra government has given the nod to extend the Metro services on the Ramwadi-Wagholi and Vanaz-Chandni Chowk routes. The proposal, approved on Monday, is slated to be forwarded to the Centre for further clearances.

Maha Metro officials disclosed that the Ramwadi-Wagholi extension will span 11.63km and encompass 12 stations, while the Vanaz-Chandni Chowk stretch will cover 1.12km with two stations.

The extensions, which will be entirely elevated, are projected to cost approximately Rs 3,756.58 crore, with a contribution of Rs 496.73 crore from the state and Centre. A substantial portion, around Rs 1,936 crore, is expected to be sourced through loans from financial institutions.

Designated as 'public projects of urgency' and 'vital urban transport projects' by the government, both extensions have already had their detailed project reports submitted by Maha Metro.

A former corporator from the Nagar Road area expressed satisfaction with the government's decision, highlighting the significance of connecting the city's eastern boundary in Wagholi to its western areas at Chandni Chowk. He voiced hopes for the prompt commencement of work on both lines.

Deputy CM Ajit Pawar lauded the approval of the Metro extensions, emphasizing their role in facilitating connectivity for suburban residents to the central areas of the city.
